Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Garrison Bible Study website, applications, and related services (collectively, the “Service”) operated by Garrison Bible Study (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use the Service. By registering, you represent that you meet this requirement. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Service complies with applicable laws.
2. Accounts
You may need to register for an account to use certain features. You agree to provide accurate, current information and to keep your credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at the contact address below if you suspect unauthorized access.
3. License and acceptable use
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal or internal organizational Bible study purposes.
You agree not to:
- violate any law or third-party rights;
- reverse engineer, scrape, or attempt to extract source code or data except as permitted by law;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service or its security;
- upload malware or harmful content;
- use the Service to harass, spam, or impersonate others;
- resell or commercially exploit the Service without our written consent.
We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or pose a risk to the Service or other users.
4. Your content
You may submit notes, study logs, and other materials (“User Content”). You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, store, display, and process User Content solely to operate, improve, and secure the Service. You represent that you have the rights to submit User Content and that it does not infringe others’ rights.
We are not obligated to monitor User Content but may remove content that violates these Terms or applicable law.
5. Scripture and third-party content
Bible text and related materials may be provided by licensors or third parties and may be subject to separate copyright or license terms displayed in the Service. Your use of such materials is limited to what those licenses allow. We do not claim ownership of licensed scripture text.
6. Subscriptions and fees
Some features may be offered free; paid plans or add-ons may be introduced later. If you purchase a paid subscription, additional payment terms will be presented at checkout. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or expressly stated. We may change pricing with reasonable notice for future billing periods.
7. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
8. Open source and self-hosting
Garrison Bible Study is open source software licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). Source code is available at https://gitlab.com/ChurchTechHelp/garrison.
If you run a copy of the software yourself (self-host), you must comply with AGPL-3.0, including providing corresponding source to users who interact with your modified version over a network. A separate commercial license is available if AGPL obligations are not suitable for your organization.
Self-hosted operators are responsible for their own users, privacy notices, and compliance. Third-party self-hosts must omit SaaS-only features as described in our documentation. Managed service accounts on domains we operate are governed by these Terms.
9. Intellectual property
The Service, including software, design, trademarks, and documentation (excluding User Content and licensed third-party materials), is owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. No rights are granted except as expressly set out in these Terms.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.
Garrison Bible Study is a study tool. It does not provide pastoral, medical, legal, or other professional advice. Scripture interpretations and study materials are for informational purposes; consult qualified advisors as needed.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD $100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
12. Indemnification
You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless us and our affiliates from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your User Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access with or without notice if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive termination.
14. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised Terms on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may be notified through the Service or by email where appropriate. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence apply. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, unless applicable law requires a different forum. You and we waive any right to a jury trial to the extent permitted by law.
16. General
These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger or sale of assets.
